The Zoning Board of Appeal today rejected a proposal by the owner of the triple decker at 353 East 8th St. to extend the building in the rear, including new decks, and add living space in the basement as just too much.

The proposal, to add more than 1,000 square feet of space, had been opposed by the mayor’s office and the offices of City Councilors Ed Flynn and Michael Flaherty. The first two cited opposition from neighbors; Flaherty opposes any variances under the zoning that applies to much of South Boston.
