The Boston Celtics are going to make the NBA playoffs. I don’t think there is any doubt about it now after the stretch they’ve been on since the new year started. Now the question is, who do we want the Boston Celtics to play in the first round of the NBA playoffs? There’s a lot of talent in the Eastern Conference. Now it’s time to see what teams the Celtics should WANT to play when the playoffs begin. Let’s get into the speculations, shall we?
Boston Celtics Playoffs Opponent #1: Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers currently sit as the six seed in the Eastern Conference. This Cavs team has been a few years in the making. With young stars like Darius Garland and Collin Sexton, along with veterans in Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert; the Cavs have turned things around. But honestly, I love this matchup for the Celtics. The inexperience of the Cavs will come back to haunt them. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been to several conference finals together. Plus with this defense, the Celtics should be able to handle the Cavs. Probably in about 5 games to be honest!
Playoffs Opponent #2: Chicago Bulls
Billy Donovan has the Chicago Bulls in a top four seed in the Eastern Conference. The additions of Lonzo Ball, DeMar DeRozan, and Alex Caruso have helped the Bulls become respectable again in the Eastern Conference. This could be the most realistic matchup the Celtics see in the NBA playoffs. Honestly though, this is a matchup that doesn’t worry me too much. The Celtics play the Bulls tough and know they can beat them with their improved defense. This is a series the Celtics should take in six games.
Playoff Opponent #3: Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors aren’t the team they used to be when they won the championship in 2019. They’re in a play-in tournament spot and might not even get past the Brooklyn Nets. But assuming they do and the Celtics somehow sneak in as a #2 seed, that sets up a Celtics-Raptors first round matchup. This is a pretty convincing matchup for the Celtics. They’ve taken care of the Raptors pretty well this season. It shouldn’t even be a close series. A sweep or at the worst, five games for the Celtics!
