The Bruins return to game action tomorrow after not having played since December 16th. Hockey is finally back… for now, at least. Various members of the black and gold have been placed in COVID protocol over the last month. They’ve missed six scheduled games during that stretch which will eventually have to be made up. The NHL will attempt to make up for lost games during the originally scheduled Olympic break.
NHL does not return to the Olympics
Due to the latest surge of COVID-19 cases, the NHL has officially opted out of the Olympics. A bittersweet subject, as this could be the last chance for various players to participate. One such player is Brad Marchand, who voiced his displeasure with the ruling earlier this week. Marchand has made one career appearance at the Olympics, while fellow line mate David Pastrnak has yet to make his Olympic debut. Pastrnak is 25 years old and has only been able to represent his country, the Czech Republic, in the World Juniors Championship tournament back in 2014. Speaking of the WJC, those were also cancelled in the middle of the tournament this past week. It’s been a rough month for hockey.
Bruins are out of COVID Protocol
Yesterday the team confirmed that Charlie Coyle, the last remaining member of the team in COVID protocol, has been cleared for play. Coyle isn’t the only old face returning to the lineup. Reports on Thursday of this week rumor that Tuukka Rask has a contract in place. He has been practicing with the team as a normal participant. It’ll be interesting to see when this is announced and what the goaltending situation will be.
