Antonio Brown has had some success since joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s won a Super Bowl and has kept himself out of trouble. Until recently, when he was suspended three games for violating the NFL-NFLPA COVID-19 protocols.
Brown was suspended following a review of allegations that the players misrepresented their vaccination status. The Buccaneers would learn that Brown and safety Mike Edwards would be lost for the next three games.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the league’s investigation found that Brown brought a fake vaccination card with him to training camp. Once he arrived to camp, someone told him having one could get him in trouble, so he made the decision to get vaccinated.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that, the Buccaneers weren’t penalized for their players alleged misrepresentation of their vaccination status.
Back in September, Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians claimed all players and staff members had received the COVID-19 vaccine.
Antonio Brown and his future with the Buccaneers is up in the air
Once Brown returns, the question now is focused on whether or not the Buccaneers will release the veteran wide out.
Arians was asked about the future of Brown and Edwards and he stated, “We’ll address their future at that time.” His response has fueled some speculation that they both will be released.
According to Rapoport, “no decision” has been made on Brown but there’s the insinuation being that it’s possible they do not.
Antonio Brown went on Richard Sherman’s podcast
Brown went on the Richard Sherman Podcast and spoke about his vaccine card.
“That’s the sad part. The country say, ‘You’re innocent until proven guilty,’ but you’re guilty till you show innocence, because anything someone says, everyone’s already magnifying it, and if you come out and say anything, you just put yourself in deeper holes because now it’s like … I learned to realize criticism is answered with achievement. When people criticize you, there’s no need to respond or worry. …”
If the Buccaneers were to release Brown, it would come as a blow to the offense. However, just like the Raiders and the Patriots, the Bucs knew what they were getting into when signing Brown. They made their bed, now they have to lie in it.
What’s more important, winning or integrity?
The Buccaneers must decide what’s more important, keep Brown on the field and allowing him to help them win or integrity?
Arians has been vocal about Brown in the past, saying there’s “too much diva.” But when the best player in the game, Tom Brady says he wants Brown, you go and get Brown.
Last year, Arians had this quote about Brown and if he ever got out of line with Tampa Bay.
“He’s been a model citizen,” Arians told Sirius Radio in November 2020. “If and when he’s not, we’ll move on. He knows that, our team knows that.”
It might be time that the Buccaneers, moves on.
