It has been a great 2022 campaign for New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson being the team’s main back. On the season throughout the first 13 weeks, Stevenson has 161 rushing attempts with 734 yards on the ground, while having 56 receptions and 383 receiving yards, 1 touchdown through the air. He has capitalized on his opportunities this season making him in my opinion the M.V.P in New England. Stevenson has outplayed Damien Harris in the backfield due to him missing time earlier in the year with a hamstring issue. In his second year out of Oklahoma, the former Sooner has shown the league he can be an every-down back in the NFL. Come next year for the 2023 season look for him to take over the starting role because Harris is a pending free agent once the season ends.
Stevenson is Reliable and Durable
Stevenson has appeared in all of the Patriots twelve games this season. He had a career high in rushing yards against the Detroit Lions back in Week 5 while having 25 attempts and adding 161 yards on the ground. No knock on Harris at all because he has had great games for New England throughout his career up until this point, but missing time has cleared the way for Stevenson to get the most snaps. Stevenson has took a big leap from his 1st season and into the 2nd season between rushing yards, receiving yards, receptions and attempts on the ground. He has surpassed his attempts, rushing and receiving totals from a season ago.
Looking Ahead for Stevenson In New England
Only in his second season in New England and still under team control until team control until 2024 with a fifth-year option, New England might want to think within the next year or two to lock this young man up with the Patriots. In the NFL a lifespan of a running back is very short lived unfortunately but Stevenson has a bright future ahead of him and a lot of speed and agility he brings to his game. If I were the Patriots I would think of talking to him in the offseason about staying here for the long haul. I wouldn’t rule out New England signing their other running back Harris to a team friendly deal if the sides can come to an agreement. Looking ahead to the next few seasons things will be real interesting in Foxboro.
