As we enter today, the Boston Red Sox have a weird series coming up against the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles are coming to Fenway for a five game series. Keep in mind, the Red Sox were going to play the Orioles at the beginning of the season. But then, the lockout postponed the first week of games. So this is one of those makeup games coming into play. So with this in mind, let’s preview this five game series between the Red Sox and the Orioles.
The Red Sox first look at top Orioles prospect Adley Rutschman
The Red Sox will get their first look at the Orioles future. Adley Rustchman is a switch hitting catcher that also has a terrific arm behind the plate. Rustchman is considered by many as the top prospect in all of baseball. So the Red Sox could be seeing the beginning of a guy they’ll have to deal with for the next 10-15 years. Could it be that Rustchman is the guy that can help get the Orioles back to a respectable franchise? We’ll see what happens.
Continuing solid play
Lately, the Red Sox have been playing a lot better. Remember, they won three consecutive series against the Rangers, Astros, and Mariners earlier in the month. The hitting seems like it’s starting to come around. Hopefully, the pitching will continue to tread above water until Chris Sale and James Paxton return to form.
A Golden Opportunity for the Red Sox against the Orioles
The bottom line is that this is a golden opportunity for the Red Sox. If you can take four out of five in this series, that sets you up very well. Then, the Reds come to town and you go to Oakland. That is the chance to win 7 or 8 out of 10 games and go on a little run. But first things first. Take care of the Orioles. If you can’t do that, then you still have some issues you need to resolve to get back to being a good baseball team.
