The NHL trade deadline is this coming Monday. I thought it would be fun to do a random generator to determine where players may land. I took currently available players from TSN’s top trade targets list and paired them with a list of 17 teams that are still in playoff contention.
The NHL Trade Deadline Simulator is Random
Please note that I did not consider salary cap or team needs when generating this list. However, while some of the pairings either are way out there or impossible cap wise, some of them are quite possible. I highlighted some of those below. Another note: Per Cap Friendly, the teams with the most cap space heading into the trade deadline currently are the Nashville Predators, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche.

Trade deadline Simulator results that could make sense
Boston’s transactions– I think Bruins fans would agree with me that I could see General Manager Don Sweeney walking away with depth adds like de Haan and Armia.
Toronto gets Chychrun– A both cost controlled and young defensemen in Chychrun would be a big get for Toronto. Not sure if they have the pieces to acquire him but it’s interesting. Not sure about the return of Phil Kessel though.
Giordano to Carolina– The 38-year-old veteran would be a welcomed addition to a young but impressive Carolina team.
Giroux to Calgary– Calgary needs a center. This almost makes too much sense. With a wide-open west outside of Colorado, Calgary is expected to gear up for a run. Though they’ve already added Jarnrok and may not be looking to shake things up too much.
Pittsburg lands Lindholm- HNIC Elliotte Friedman reported this morning that the Ducks couldn’t get a contract extension done with Lindholm. So there’s a good chance he is traded. The Penguins could use the help on their backend.
Colorado gets Rakell and depth– The Avs miss out on Giroux but land a pure rental in Rickard Rakell and depth adds with Mark Pysyk and Pavel Zacha.
St. Louis picks up defense and a familiar face– The Blues pick up Jacob Middleton and Colin Miller. But also bring back Paul Stastny.
Subban to Tampa– The New Jersey Devils would have to retain heavily for a cap strained Lightning team. But that’s a good depth add. Subban would be a rental as well as his monster contract ends this season.
