NFL MVP Race

Must read

We are fourteen weeks into the season and the NFL MVP race has not been decided yet on who the winner of the MVP is going to be this year. We have a couple of guys that are at the top of the table. There are some names that are honorable mentions as well, such as Jonathan Taylor, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, and Josh Allen. However, there are five guys that are still in the running to be the league’s MVP this season. With that being said here are the five guys that I still see in the NFL MVP race for this season.

5.) Matthew Stafford

Matthew Stafford has been a solid addition for the Rams this season. If he was doing this in Detroit, nobody would be talking about it like they are now that he is on the Rams. Stafford has thrown so far for over 3,800 passing yards to go along with 33 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. The Rams are poised to make a deep run this season and it is in part of Stafford. Los Angeles currently sits at 9-4 and is the fifth seed in the NFC.

He is on pace for another season of having over 4,500 passing yards. Stafford could also break his career high in passing touchdowns this year as well. He has four games left and he has a chance to help get the Rams back to the Super Bowl this season. Stafford has been extraordinary this season and he should be in the talks still for the NFL MVP award to this day.

4.) Kyler Murray

Kyler looked like the clear-cut favorite the first seven weeks of the season. Then he got hurt and just played in his first game since week eight last week. In his ten starts this season the Cardinals are 8-2 in those games. Murray has also thrown for 2,782 passing yards to go along with 19 passing touchdowns and 9 interceptions. You can also add his five rushing touchdowns as well. In the games that Murray has played for the most part he has been a pocket passer.

Murray currently has a career high in completion percentage (71.6%) and has the Cardinals at their best record since 2015. If Kyler doesn’t miss that span of games, he is definitely in line for the MVP award right now. However, he has the fact that he missed from week nine to week twelve that is holding him back from being in the top three MVP finalists in my opinion.

3.) Justin Herbert

Herbert is taking his sophomore season to new heights. Currently sitting at an 8-5 record, Herbert has thrown for 3,822 passing yards to go along with 30 passing touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He is going to set new career highs this season in passing yards and passing touchdowns. Herbert has the potential to sneak in throwing for over 4,500 passing yards this season. If the Chargers were in first place in their division, I truly believe Herbert would be a top two contender for the NFL MVP award this season. I think the team being in the wild card instead of winning the division is going to hurt his value a little bit.

Herbert is taking the league by storm quietly, but he has the potential to win the MVP at some point in his career. I think this year he is a little bit out matched by the two guys in front of him, but he is still in the conversation by all means.

2.) Aaron Rodgers

Tom Brady is already the oldest to win the NFL MVP ever. He will probably break his own record this season by winning the NFL MVP. Brady last won the MVP award in 2017 when he was at the age of 40. This year he is 44 years old and looks to be the odds-on favorite to win his fourth NFL MVP award in his illustrious career. Brady has a 10-3 record this season while throwing for 4,134 passing yards to go along with 36 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Brady is a once in a lifetime player and to see a player at 44 years old playing at the level that he is playing at is incredible. He might break his career best for passing touchdowns this season as well. It is wild to say that a forty-four-year-old quarterback might win the NFL MVP. Well, I got news for you he is probably going to win the award this season. His numbers are insane this season and right now he is the favorite to win his fourth NFL MVP award.
