Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Preview

Must read

We have an intriguing matchup here in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. We have two teams that play completely different styles that will clash in this one. SEC vs and FBS Independent school is the title in this one. The matchup of Missouri (6-6) and Army (8-4) is going to be a curious one to look for on Wednesday. With that being said here is my preview for the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.

Missouri

Missouri has the SEC leading rusher and the guy who was third in the nation in rushing yards this season in Tyler Badie. Badie has been a big part of this Tigers offense all season and will need him to play well against this Army defense. Missouri also needs a good game out of their quarterback Connor Bazelak as he has been too inconsistent for the Tigers liking this season. Going up against an Army defense that is ranked fifteenth in total defense strongly due to the fact that their offense controls the time of possession (we will talk about that more in a bit). The Tigers are going to need to capitalize on any chance that they get offensively to put points up on the board here. Badie is a crucial part of this offense and will need to continue to be that in this one.

If Missouri wants to compete in this one, they will need to do two things. First thing is to keep Army’s offense on the sidelines and control the time of possession. The second thing is to not shoot themselves in the foot. Limit the turnovers and win the time of possession and you can win this matchup.

Army

The Army rushing offense is one of the best in the nation. Sitting at third in the country the Black Knights are a matchup nightmare for a team like Missouri. Not because of their firepower, but because they can run the ball effectively through four quarters. Missouri is one of the worst rush defenses in the country and Army will look to exploit that in this one. Missouri is ranked last in the SEC when it comes to defending the run.

The Black Knights do a good job giving a lot of people touches and this will keep Missouri on their toes for the entire game. If Army is going to win this one, they will have to do what they have been doing all season long and that is control the time of possession and keep the opposing offense off of the field.

Prediction:

Army is currently a 5.5 point favorite with the over/under at 56.5. My lean in this one is under 56.5 as I do see Army wearing out Missouri throughout the entire game. However, I don’t trust Army to cover in this one. My official pick in this bowl matchup is Missouri +5.5. Army doesn’t have the firepower to blow out an SEC team like Missouri, but I think Army will wear down that defense. I love the Tigers to cover in this bowl game.
