Is Tua the Answer for the Dolphins?

Must read

Without reservation, Tua Tagovailoa is under one of the biggest microscopes for a QB this upcoming season. By the same token, Tua is a QB who has shown flashes here and there of the reason why he was drafted fifth overall in the 2020 Draft.

Looking back at that draft, Miami passed on QB Justin Herbert, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers one pick after Tua. GM Chris Grier has significantly improved an offense that was ranked 22nd in 2020 and 25th in 2021.

Firstly, signing OT Terron Armstead from the New Orleans Saints was a major move in my estimation. Addressing the OL was priority number one in fixing this offense. In addition, signing G Connor Williams from the Dallas Cowboys is a major move for the line.

Thank you Chris Grier and the Miami Dolphins for addressing this huge need. Terron Armstead’s leadership and skills will help the entire offensive line be better.

What’s more, signing RBs Raheem Mostert and Chase Edmonds gives Tua an actual running game as Miami was 30th in rushing in 2021. Above all, trading for WR Tyreek Hill adds that speed once cannot teach.

Mike McDaniel and Tua

The Dolphins hiring former San Francisco 49ers OC Mike McDaniel as HC is further proof that Grier is banking on Tua. In this instance, McDaniel brings that Kyle Shanahan offense with him that’ll benefit Tua.

A strong running game will create more opportunities in the passing game, which is cliché but true. Furthermore, look at the job he did with QB Jimmy Garoppolo along with Shanahan.

Adding Mike McDaniel, Terron Armstead, Tyreek Hill, Chase Edmonds, and Raheem Mostert while also tagging Gesicki to keep him around too.

I’ll give the Dolphins credit – they are absolutely doing everything possible to help Tua succeed. Great to see them not leave him out to dry.

For Tua, he’s started 21 games over his first two seasons with the Dolphins. Next, the completion percentage of 66.2 percent is good given the sample size. As well, he has 27 touchdown passes to 15 interceptions.

However, he can be a threat to run as he has six rushing touchdowns. As I have noted, he has flashes of tremendous talent worthy of his top-five selection. McDaniel can bring out that talent and more in my eyes.

The Expectations for Tua

At any rate, I sense that the expectation for Tua is to be the QB that was seen at the University of Alabama. While there, he led the nation in passing efficiency rating in 2018. He’s the all-time leader in college football with a 199.4 passing efficiency rating. All in all, I want him to be the QB that I know myself, Dolphins fans, and NFL fans can be.
