6/12/25 – Royale

Despite being a tour for seventh studio album Glory, the onstage movements of lead singer Michael Hadreas strongly reflected the artist’s collaborations with the YC dance company (“The Sun Still Burns Here“) and the experimental dance influences of 2022 album Ugly Season. Throughout the night, he dragged household objects around, tangling his limbs with the legs of the step ladder or the chair, grabbing a fistful of rubber as he sang with a blue yoga ball in hand, and spinning on a smaller rotating stage as he slowly kicked his cowboy boots into the air. More than once, Hadreas became a Houdini, twisting his mic cord and his body into a giant knot, and then somehow, elegantly escaping without help from his four bandmates, which included his partner Alan Wyffels on keys and Meg of Duffy (Hand Habits) on guitar.

The set list spanned most of his records—funky bass lines of “Eye in the Wall” and “On the Floor” propelled the crowd to dance, hips swinging—and even included a Mazzy Star cover, a featured contribution to a PROUD playlist (particularly fitting, given this performance was in June during Pride month).
