Charlie Woods is a Pokemon

Must read

The PNC Championship was this past weekend, and it was some of the best Sunday golf I’ve seen in a while. Tiger and Charlie Woods put on an absolute show while donning the legendary Sunday Red together. Charlie, aka Charmander, played out of his pre-teen mind. His play really got me thinking– with his path to Greatness lying before him, his life is basically comparable to that of a Pokemon. It’s only a matter of time until he evolves into a legitimate pro, becoming Charmelion. And then dominating the PGA Tour and winning majors just like his father… becoming Charzard.

While this was the first time Tiger returned to playing meaningful golf in nearly a year, Young Charmander quickly stole the show. The club was twirling, the hair was flowing, and you could feel his alpha presence through the tv screen. He has the same mannerisms and swag about him that his dad has. The apple clearly doesn’t fall far from the tree with these two. You can see it in his eyes, the kid is destined to be special.

Tiger and Charlie Come Up Just Short

After a casual 11 birdies in a row, the Woods duo found themselves within a shot of John Daly and his son as they teed off on 18. Tiger almost chipped one in for birdie, which would have given them the co-lead at the time. I honestly think I would’ve fallen off my couch if Tiger hit that chip. Unfortunately, both Tiger and Charmander barely missed their respective putts to practically ensure their 2nd-place finish behind the Daly’s. Then Tiger and Charmander hugged, and gave some nice post-tourney press coverage for the people.

Whether you’re a huge golf fan or not, everyone can sit down on a couch and be glued to the tv whenever Tiger is on. There’s always been something about him that makes him different. I don’t know how else to put it concisely. Now his son is out here looking like a carbon copy of himself, and it’s scary to think what Charlie has the potential to accomplish.

Charmander’s Road Ahead

I used to get annoyed by people tweeting about Charlie and trying to see how he did in tournaments and whatnot. I was definitely a member of the “he’s just a kid, leave him alone” crowd. But I can’t help it anymore, this kid is just unbelievable to watch. And if he’s playing on national television, I say he’s fair game to write about. Even if he’s 12.

Charmander still has plenty of time until his first evolution into Charmelion. He’s got about six years until he can legally join the PGA Tour. Until then, he’s going to be mentored and polished by the greatest golfer of all time. He’s going to be under immense pressure; it comes with the territory of playing in Tiger Woods’ footsteps. But the perfect person to guide Charmander is Tiger himself. This is only the beginning– Young Charmander is a legend in the making before our very eyes.
