The Celtics are trying to do everything they can to add talent to their roster. With a lot of players currently out due to COVID-19 protocols, they have been looking at free agency as well as everywhere else around the league. They don’t even care about the ages of whoever is going to come in and contribute for them. Today, the Celtics signed 40 year old Joe Johnson to a 10-day contract. Yes, THAT Joe Johnson! The Joe Johnson that was around back in the early 2000’s. Here’s some quick reactions.
Iso-Joe is Back!
One of the more entertaining players to grace the NBA landscape is back. Joe Johnson is known as “Iso-Joe” simply because he likes to be a scorer. Plain and simple. Joe Johnson used to be a walking bucket back in the day. From his early days with the Celtics, to his prime years with the Hawks, to his veteran days with the Nets; the man knew how to get his points. So it’ll be interesting to see whether or not the Celtics use him to help on offense, especially when the Celtics hit their scoring lulls.
My Reaction to the Celtics Signing Joe Johnson
I mean, what are we doing here? First it wad CJ Miles the other day. Now, it’s Joe Johnson? Could it be that the Celtics want more veterans on the team to help the younger guys like Tatum, Brown, and Robert Williams? I honestly don’t know. This isn’t a situation where Johnson is being brought in as the final piece to a championship roster. I honestly don’t know what was going through Brad Stevens head when he thought signing Johnson would be a good idea. Are the Celtics really struggling THAT much for players? The G-league Maine Celtics don’t have anyone that can contribute? I don’t know, it’s just a weird signing.
In Conclusion
At worst, Johnson is here for the rest of the season. Realistically, he’s probably gone next week. Maybe a 40 year old Joe Johnson could be fun to watch for a few games. Couldn’t be much worse than this Celtics team has put us through so far this season.
