Can permanent daylight savings time help the Boston condo for sale market?

Happy Spring! We are all starting to recover from the long cold winter.  We are also recovering from the switch from standard time to daylight savings time. We moved the clock ahead one hour and now we are all tired because we are getting up an hour earlier every day.

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday passed legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent starting in 2023, ending the twice-annual changing of clocks in a move promoted by supporters advocating brighter afternoons and more economic activity.

I am old enough to remember the 1970’s. During the energy crisis there was a year or two when we stayed on daylight savings time because apparently, it saved energy. People didn’t like it but that was almost 50 years ago and many people were born after the early 70’s or were too young in the ’70s to remember what it was like.

If we stay on daylight savings time there will be days in the winter when the sun doesn’t rise until almost 9:00 AM.

It also means that it would be easier to show homes for sale in December and January. People who want to see houses after work often have to see them in the dark. That extra hour of daylight in the afternoon is most welcome.

I just wish we could move away from having to change the time twice a year. It messes up our internal clocks and our external clocks and seems kind of barbaric.
