Browns’ Baker Mayfield rips the NFL over COVID-19 protocols

Must read

Browns starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is not pleased with the NFL. The former No.1 overall pick took to Twitter and blasted the NFL over their COVID-19 protocols. The Cleveland Browns are already going to be without starting quarterback, Mayfield was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week.

As the Browns turn their attention to the Raiders on Saturday and will have to use their third-string quarterback. Nick Mullens will earn the start Saturday in a must-win game after learning backup Case Keenum was going to be added to the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Baker Mayfield rips the NFL

Mayfield is displeased on how the league is handling team’s COVID-19 situation. He would take too Twitter to call out the league on Thursday.

@NFL Make up your damn mind on protocols. Showing up and making only 3 teams test?!? All so you can keep the game as scheduled to make money.

Mayfield didn’t just stop there, he would carry on with two more tweets to elaborate on the situation.

Tell me if this makes sense…. No tests this morning… then let our team gather for practice… then show up after practice to test them. Something seems off here.

The NFL on Thursday relaxed the testing requirements to clear vaccinated personnel, potentially positioning the players on the list for a faster return.

Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett also questioned the NFL’s procedures on Thursday.

Garrett said he thought it was unusual that players weren’t tested for COVID-19 prior to entering the team’s facility on Thursday. By not testing players, the league could have allowed players and coaches who were positive to be in the building, increasing the likelihood of a spread.

“The lack of testing that we have done all year I kind of feel like has led to this point. Only testing one time a week and guys doing their own thing on Monday and Tuesday with their time off, it was kind of a recipe for disaster,” said Garrett.

The COVID situation around the league is getting out of control, besides the Browns situation, the Rams have 25 players on the NFL reserve/COVID-19 list. As of Thursday night, the Browns game against the Raiders is still on as well as the Seahawks and Rams game.

I asked a league official about the status of the #Browns#Raiders game. Still no indication it’s going to be moved or canceled. Would take many more positives to get there.

Conclusion

The NFL is beginning to implement new measures to try and keep their players and coaches safe. However, the newest variant might throw a wrench into the upcoming scheduled games. More and more teams are losing players and it’s starting to look like the league can’t get a handle on this outbreak.
