The Red Sox are officially onto their second half of the MLB season. They find themselves back at home at Fenway Park for a three game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Red Sox are currently 48-45 and fighting for a Wild Card spot in the American League. Let’s preview this three game weekend series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox

Can the Red Sox beat an A.L. East team?

The Red Sox are 0-11-1 in series against the American League East this season. That’s right, they haven’t won a series against an A.L. East team ALL SEASON LONG. Coming into the season, we knew the A.L East would be a dogfight. But I thought the Red Sox would be a part of it. A lot of these series, they’ve actually won the first game of the series! So it amazes me that at this point in the season, the Red Sox don’t have a series win against someone in their own division. Yes, that includes the Baltimore Orioles!

Can the Red Sox beat the Blue Jays in a series?

We know what the Blue Jays are known for this season. They can hit extremely well. It’ll all depend on the Red Sox pitching staff in this series. Can Nathan Eovaldi evade the homerun ball and pitch the Red Sox deep into the ballgame? Will we see Kutter Crawford or Josh Winchowski in this series until Michael Wacha and Rich Hill are ready to return? Also, can the Red Sox offense keep up with the Jays offense if necessary?

The bottom line is that you need to win this series. I don’t know how much longer the Red Sox can expect to compete when you can’t win in your own division. The Blue Jays have their problems too. Their pitching isn’t where they thought it would be at this point in the season. They fired their manager not too long ago. Try to find a way to win an inner-division series.

Series Prediction: Blue Jays win 2 out of 3
