Allstate Sugar Bowl Preview

Must read

This final New Year’s Six bowl matchup is going to be a doozy. We have the Big 12 going up against the SEC in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The matchup is between Baylor (11-2) and Ole Miss (10-2). Big 12 champions going up against a NFL Draft caliber quarterback will be a fun one to watch. Make sure you sit down and watch this matchup as you will not be disappointed with this one. With that being said here is my preview for the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Baylor

The Baylor Bears won the Big 12 championship and I did not see this coming. The Bears offense averages 214.7 rushing yards per game and averages 32.5 points per game. This running game is led by running back Abram Smith. Smith has 1,429 rushing yards on the season to go along with 12 rushing touchdowns. This Baylor offense also has a quarterback that has been solid for them in Gerry Bohanon. Bohanon has thrown for 2,165 passing yards to go along with 17 passing touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Baylor is going to need both Bohanon and Smith to perform at a high level in this one.

Defensively, the Baylor Bears were strong at times this season. Baylor gives up 19.2 points per game and allows 116.8 rushing yards per game as well. Baylor’s front seven will be a throne in Ole Miss’ side early on. If the Big 12 defensive player of the year Jalen Pitre continues to dominate the way he has all season, the Rebels offense could be in some trouble in this one.

Ole Miss

The Ole Miss offense was one of the better offenses in the country. They average 519.3 total yards of offense per game, 225.2 rushing yards per game and they average just under 36 points per game. This offense is led by future NFL quarterback Matt Corral. Corral has thrown for 3,328 passing yards to go along with 20 touchdowns and four interceptions. Corral also added 597 rushing yards on the ground and 11 rushing touchdowns as well. This offense flows through Corral and he will look to end his Ole Miss career on a good note with a win in the Sugar Bowl. Corral is staying and playing with this Ole Miss team and you have to like him a little bit more than you did before for that.

Defensively, Ole Miss is alright at best. They give up 25 points per game, but they also give up 446.3 total yards of offense to opposing teams per game. This Ole Miss defense will need to be on their A game, because Baylor’s offense will make them pay if they continue to stay on the field over and over again. Look for the Rebels to try and keep Baylor’s offense off the field as much as possible in this one.

Prediction:

Ole Miss is a 1.5 point favorite in this one with the over/under set at 55.5. I am leaning the under as the under has been great in the last seven for Ole Miss and the last four for Baylor. We stay away from the total and focus on the line. My official play is Ole Miss moneyline. I like Ole Miss in this spot and as a 1.5 point favorite I am going to take them to win this game outright. Matt Corral will end his college career on a good note and the Rebels will win this matchup.
